Today, Port of Khasab serves as an essential resource for cruise vessels, National Ferry Company (NFC) operations, and Iranian freight and cargo.

MARAFI took over the management of Port Khasab in April 2019.

Location

Port of Khasab is positioned at the northern end of Oman, in the Musandam Governate facing the Strait of Hormuz.

The number of berths in the port is 39, including:

General cargo berths-containers and RO-RO berths.
Grain and fodder berths.
Unpacked cargo berths, cooled cargo berths and general cargo berths.

The depth of sea waters in such berths ranges from 9 up to 14 meters, while its total length is 7837 meters. Such berths are provided with modern equipment and installations for cargo handling and stowage, in addition to carrying it from the port, also forklift and other electronic lifts of different types, some of which are of 3.2.15 tons capacity. Moreover, lifts for unloading grains, receiving dock with a length reaching 4000 meters and the sea depth along the dock ranging between 4.5 and 6 meters.

TYPES OF OPERATIONS

CRUISE OPERATIONS

Port Khasab is the port of choice for many global leading cruise lines all year round, and is reporting steady growth in the sector.

BULK OPERATIONS

The port serves a number of major dry bulk operations, and recently announced an agreement to handle over 1 million tons of dry bulk transshipment for an international partner.

GENERAL CARGO AND LIVE ANIMAL OPERATIONS

Port Khasab handles all categories of imports, exports and transshipments, and is a major hub for live animal import and re-exports.

SERVICES TO COASTAL RESIDENCES

The port is the primary transport link between the local community residing along the coastal belt of Musandam and the main city of Khasab

DOMESTIC FERRY SERVICE

National Ferries Company (NFC), the Sultanate’s domestic, fast ferry operator, operates ferries to a number of destinations including Shinas, Dibba, Lima, Qeshm and Muscat.

The port harbour spans more than 550 hectares and can handle vessels with a total length of more than 180 m and a draft of 10 m. The port can handle about 4 million tonnes of cargo annually. Tripoli port comprises a general cargo berth covering 40 m and 30 berths for handling containerised cargo with a total length of more than 3000 m.

Port of Tripoli… A Promising Port!

The new Administration of the Port of Tripoli has pledged to develop and update the Port both in operation performance and delivery of services, with the aim to better serve and facilitate the transactions of the Port’s clientele. This Administration proceeded with a full renovation of the entire infrastructure including water, electricity, internal pass ways and warehouses. Vacancies in Human Resources were also filled. It is currently executing a plan to update and upgrade its Information Technology infrastructure to encompass the Administrative, Financial, and Commercial operations. In addition, Tariffs were carefully revised so that the cost of services offered by the Port become an unavoidable option when it comes to shipping in the Eastern basin of the Mediterranean sea. The aim of this Administration is to turn the Port of Tripoli into a Corporation that is organized, modern, and dynamic, with the required agility to be responsive to futur requirements for update and change, in order to attend to the interests of the Port’s clientele. Large development projects, especially the construction of the new Berth which is 1,200 m long and 15 m deep with an accompanied land area of 600,000 m2, will definitely elevate the status of the Port of Tripoli to become at par with International Ports, and to occupy a prominent position on the international shipping map. Engineering Features / Productivity Features

The port’s protected 10-meter deep harbor basin features three berths of 60m, 90m and 300m, as well as 22 hectares of open yards and 4,000 sqm of covered sheds. The port also benefits from a cruise terminal and essential administration buildings.

Development Plan

Oman to press ahead with development plans for Port of Khasab.

Plans build on tenders issued earlier to manage, operate and develop Khasab Port Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has said that it is pressing ahead with plans for the development of the Port of Khasab. In a statement, the ministry said that the plans build on tenders issued earlier to manage, operate and develop Khasab Port, including aspects related to supplying vessels with fuel, operating piers, connecting the port with global terminals and granting lands for investment in the logistics and light industries’ fields. According to an Oman News Agency Report, the statement indicated that, with a view to linking the Wilayat of Khasab with the Wilayat of Daba and, to facilitate the movement of citizens and residents within the Governorate of Musandam, the Ministry would announce a consultative tender to select a route for the Daba-Lima-Khasab carriageway and to prepare tender documents for project implementation.
