Mina Sultan Qaboos Waterfront is based in the 200-year-old historical centre of commerce in Muscat and is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Oman.

PSQ is well positioned to attract international cruise ships and serves as one of Oman’s primary tourism gateways. The port is equipped with a modern passenger terminal as well as all of the berthing and ancillary facilities needed for safe cruise operations. Modern infrastructure and efficient services played an important role in the port’s recognition as the Most Improved Cruise Destination between 2010 and 2014 by Cruise Insight Magazine.

MARAFI has managed and operated Port Sultan Qaboos since the January 1, 2018, and we are committed to building on this legacy of excellence.


Port Port Sultan Qaboos (PSQ) is situated in the Gulf of Oman at the entrance to the Arabian Gulf. The port is 350 kilometers to the south of the Straits of Hormuz and close to main shipping routes connecting the Middle East with Africa, Asia and Europe.

The number of berths in the port is 39, including:

  • General cargo berths-containers and RO-RO berths.
  • Grain and fodder berths.
  • Unpacked cargo berths, cooled cargo berths and general cargo berths.

The depth of sea waters in such berths ranges from 9 up to 14 meters, while its total length is 7837 meters. Such berths are provided with modern equipment and installations for cargo handling and stowage, in addition to carrying it from the port, also forklift and other electronic lifts of different types, some of which are of 3.2.15 tons capacity. Moreover, lifts for unloading grains, receiving dock with a length reaching 4000 meters and the sea depth along the dock ranging between 4.5 and 6 meters.

Port Characteristics



A major element of present port operations, PSQ is an important cruise destination and regional hub. Current industry trends show a strong annual growth rate of 6% since 2018.


Situated in close proximity to Oman Flour Mills Company, PSQ handles approximately 500,000 DWT of raw grain annually.


300,000 DWT of cargo is handled by PSQ annually.


Strategically located in close proximity to Muscat, foreign navy vessels regularly use PSQ as a preferred port of call.


PSQ facilitates the handling of cargo carried by Dhows which include live animal, general cargo, fruits and vegetables and more.


Ships passing through the Sea of Oman regularly stop at the PSQ’s anchorage for a variety of services such as crew changes, bunkering, provisioning and more.

The new Administration of the Port of Tripoli has pledged to develop and update the Port both in operation performance and delivery of services, with the aim to better serve and facilitate the transactions of the Port’s clientele. This Administration proceeded with a full renovation of the entire infrastructure including water, electricity, internal pass ways and warehouses. Vacancies in Human Resources were also filled. It is currently executing a plan to update and upgrade its Information Technology infrastructure to encompass the Administrative, Financial, and Commercial operations. In addition, Tariffs were carefully revised so that the cost of services offered by the Port become an unavoidable option when it comes to shipping in the Eastern basin of the Mediterranean sea. The aim of this Administration is to turn the Port of Tripoli into a Corporation that is organized, modern, and dynamic, with the required agility to be responsive to futur requirements for update and change, in order to attend to the interests of the Port’s clientele. Large development projects, especially the construction of the new Berth which is 1,200 m long and 15 m deep with an accompanied land area of 600,000 m2, will definitely elevate the status of the Port of Tripoli to become at par with International Ports, and to occupy a prominent position on the international shipping map. Development Plan

DAMAC International has been chosen by the Government of Oman to develop its Port Sultan Qaboos into a world-class, mixed-use waterfront destination in a 30:70 partnership under a joint venture company called Muttrah Tourism Development Co. LLC. The development will include two main zones: tourist port regeneration areas; and other areas such as villages, hilltop parcels, Hay Al Mina, and Al Inshirah Promontory.

SSH has been awarded the scope of detailing the master plan and the complete infrastructure of the port. In addition, SSH was awarded the design consultancy services for the buildings and components of Zone 1 – the gateway.

Zone 1 covers a built-up area of approximately 150,000 sq m and includes a four-star hotel, residential blocks comprising 430 units and some retail outlets.
